It is no longer surprising that Fahadh Faasil transforms into the persona of an obsessive, irascible villager. It is truly amazing how he manages to make us believe in and connect with a persona that is so unlikeable and unrelatable at first. Interconnected flashbacks to the turbulent past of the cynical electrician help us understand why he is the way he is and the suffering he has endured as a result of difficult circumstances. Director Sajimon uses deft storytelling to demonstrate how the curmudgeonly electrician is suspicious of everyone and everything around him. “Malayankunju,” tells a moving yet upbeat story about how, if you open your heart and let go of your doubts and concerns, forgiveness and atonement will come to you rather than you looking in vain for it.
We cant forget about how heavily the actor depends on the clichéd “Fahadh’s eyes” in this scene to express suspicion, dread, and finally hope and redemption as the story progresses. Mahesh Narayanan did an excellent job of emphasizing on the suffering of those who lose everything in a landslide in his writing. Landslides are frequently reported on in the news, but Mahesh Narayanan’s screenplay does a wonderful job of capturing what actually occurs to that family and how they deal with their loss.
